Matrimonial Finance

The true financial picture, clearly set out.

Financial remedy proceedings turn on the real value and liquidity of the matrimonial assets - often hidden inside corporate structures, property portfolios and director loan accounts. We reconstruct the position and value the interests so the court can decide on reliable figures.

Every report is prepared as an independent expert under CPR Part 35, including single-joint-expert appointments, with a primary duty to the court.

Common Questions

Matrimonial finance questions answered.

If your question is not covered below, contact us directly and we will respond the same working day.

  • A forensic accountant is typically needed where the matrimonial assets include a business, shareholdings, a property portfolio or complex structures, or where there is a concern that assets or income are concealed or understated. We establish the true value and liquidity so the financial remedy is decided on reliable figures.
  • Yes. We frequently accept single-joint-expert appointments in financial remedy proceedings, as well as party-appointed instructions. As an independent expert our duty is to the court regardless of who instructs us.
  • We assess maintainable earnings, apply the appropriate valuation basis and consider the liquidity of any value - that is, what can realistically be extracted and over what period. The basis is set out transparently so the valuation can be tested and relied on by the court.
  • Where instructed, we review the financial records for indicators of concealed, transferred or understated assets, including director loan accounts, related-party transactions and unexplained fund movements, and quantify the impact on the matrimonial pot.
  • Yes. All expert reports comply with CPR Part 35 and the accompanying Practice Direction, including the required declaration and statement of truth, with the expert's duty to the court overriding any duty to the instructing party.
